In order to earn points on Origins-Return, you have to use resources.

Of course, to use your resources, produced or looted, you have to build Buildings, research new technologies, create ships, defences, convoyors etc...

For each 1,000 Units of resources used, (Iron, gold, Crystal or Hydrogen) you earn 1 point.

However you can also earn points from your number of servicemen produced: 5,000 servicemen = 1,000 Iron = 1 point

You can also earn points by trading, for example you wish to buy servicemen but against Iron:

If you bought for example, 500,000 servicemen, you would need to give in exchange, 100,000 Iron (according to the exchange rates: (5 Serviceman = 1 Iron = 0.50 Gold = 0.33 Crystal = 0.33 Hydrogen). After 48H you would then gain 100 points.
